Crane rental cost in Naples

A small crane or boom truck with an operator usually bills by the hour with a three or four hour minimum. So a short lift starts at a few hundred dollars - before travel and extras.

Below: published 2026 rates, a worked example, every line that can land on the bill, and how to compare two quotes.

Which row is yours? That depends on the weight and how far the crane has to reach. The operator picks the crane from its load chart.

Boom truck: operated or bare

  • Operated: about $125 to $250 an hourThree or four hour minimum, plus travel time. This is the one that applies to most single lifts at a house or small building.
  • Bare: about $500 to $1,200 a dayDepends on capacity. You supply the qualified operator, the insurance and the lift plan.

A worked example

  1. $465 for the crane and operator

The low end of the boom truck row: $155 an hour with a three hour minimum.

  2. About $230 for travel

If the company bills from its yard and the yard is 45 minutes away, the round trip adds about 1.5 hours at the same rate.

  3. Then the extras

A fuel surcharge or an extra rigger comes on top. Published numbers only - your quote depends on the operator.

Crane cost by job

The weight alone doesn't size the crane. Distance from the truck, height, obstacles and the ground all count. Here's what each common Naples job needs on the table before anyone can price it.

  • Rooftop AC or package unitThe manufacturer's shipping weight, roof height, how far the curb is from the truck, and whether the old unit comes down on the same visit. A Carrier 50FC runs from 437 lb (3 ton) to 2,174 lb (25 ton). Full weight table, permits and cost on the rooftop AC page.
  • Hot tub or swim spaDry shipping weight, the distance from the truck to the pad, clearance over the house or trees, power lines, and room to put the outriggers down.
  • Trusses, beams or lanai framingHow many pieces, the longest and heaviest one, and the roof height. Several picks in one visit cost less than several visits.
  • Sign or poleSign weight and size, mounting height, whether the crane takes a lane, and who handles electrical and traffic control.
  • Generator or pad equipmentShipping weight and balance point from the spec sheet, the set distance, and the lifting points or frame it needs.

Job checklists follow the project table in RiggingForce's guide. Unit weights: Carrier 50FC specs.

Why a Naples quote may come in different

Distance moves the price a lot (Equipment Rental Compare). An operator based near your job can beat one driving in from another county on the total, even at a higher hourly rate, because there's less travel on the bill. Barrier island and gated community jobs can need extra access planning, which the operator will ask about.

How to compare two crane quotes

Ask for it itemized: crane class, hourly rate, minimum hours, how travel is billed, fuel, crew, rigging, permits and tax. Two quotes for the same tonnage often include different things. Compare the total for your job - the hourly rate alone can mislead.

Hourly rate or day rate?

Operated work is billed by the hour. Overtime usually starts after eight hours, and Saturday or night work costs more (Equipment Rental Compare). Multiplying the hourly rate by eight won't give you a reliable day price for a big crane either. Counterweight trucks, permits, escorts and assembly crews get added on top (RiggingForce). Day rates mostly come up with bare rental, where you bring your own certified operator.

Ways to keep the bill down

  • Have the numbers before you askWeight, size, pickup and set distances, and height. A vague job gets priced for the worst case.
  • Ask where the crane is coming fromA closer yard can cut travel or delivery charges.
  • Get the site readyClear the access, firm the ground, sort out permits and power lines, and time the delivery so the crane isn't left waiting.
  • Bundle the liftsOne trip and one setup for several picks usually costs less than separate visits.
  • Get the time terms in writingStandard time, overtime, weekend, waiting time and cancellation.

Crane cost questions

How much does a crane cost per hour?

In the 2026 rate sheets reviewed by RiggingForce, a crane with its operator ran from $155 an hour for a 23 ton boom truck to $595 an hour for a 275 ton crane. Those sheets are from Texas and Virginia, so treat them as a range check, not a Naples price list.

Is there a minimum charge?

Almost always. Small road-going cranes in those sheets carry a three or four hour minimum, and some large cranes carry eight. A short pick still pays the minimum, which is why a 20 minute lift can cost several hundred dollars.

What is the cheapest crane to hire?

For a short lift it is usually a small boom truck that drives to the job on its own, because nothing has to be hauled in on a trailer. It only works if it can carry the weight at the distance you need.

Is fuel included?

It depends on the company. Rate sheets use a percentage surcharge, a mileage formula, metered fuel or customer-supplied fuel. Ask how it is worked out and which lines it applies to.

Do crane companies charge for travel time?

Many do. Portal to portal billing starts the clock when the truck leaves the yard and stops it when the truck gets back. Others charge separate delivery and pickup fees. Either way, a closer yard usually means a smaller bill.
